When you are inspired by some great purpose some extraordinary project all your thoughts break their bonds, your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be. Patanjali Photo: Lynne Azpeitia

To tap the ability to create, you must spiritually soar into the thin air of the stratosphere—blue sky—where it is possible “to bring into existence” from nothing an original concept.

It's simple, you just take something and do something to it, and then do something else to it. Keep doing this, and pretty soon you've got something. Jasper Johns

The Art of Creativity
D. Goleman & P. Kaufman

Has this ever happened to you? You're out for a jog, completely relaxed, your mind a pleasant blank. Then all of a sudden the solution to a problem you've been mulling over for weeks pops into your head. You can't help but wonder why you didn't think of it before. In such moments you've made contact with the creative spirit, that elusive muse of good—and sometimes great—ideas. Yet it is more than an occasional insight. When the creative spirit stirs, it animates a style of being: a lifetime filled with the desire to innovate, to explore new ways of doing things, to bring dreams of reality....More

Programming Opportunities for Students Gifted and Talented in the Visual Arts
Gilbert A. Clark & Enid Zimmerma
n
In most classrooms, the needs of atypical students of all kinds are not served adequately, partly because these students need differentiated curricula and programming opportunities designed specifically to serve their unique characteristics, and few voices have been raised to recognize or help meet the needs of students gifted and talented in the visual arts...More

Lynne Azpeitia
"Sometimes when you climb a mountain, the oxygen is a little thin.”

There are healers who have trained their entire careers to be there for you when times get tough. Our guest today is one of them. The Coincidence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity  Disorder and Creativity
 Bonnie Cramond, Ph.D.

The stories of creative individuals are replete with instances of childhood problems in school (Piirto, 1992; Thompson, 1971; West, 1991). Although it has been argued that many creative individuals have suffered from mood disorders and other clinically significant psychological problems (Hershman & Lieb, 1988; Jamison, 1993), there are others whose behavior, although irregular, may be more indicative of their creativity than of any disorders...More

Silent Retreat: Release Your Creativity
Bruce Davis, Ph.D.

Great writers, thinkers, innovators begin in silence. Inspiration, the romance of life blossoms out of silence. Creative people in all walks of life seek silence as their laboratory to make a new world. The next steps in life, art, business, science call for realizing our golden potential. In silence, our world opens to this goldenness, what is life giving and true. A silent retreat is free time where simple being and inner stillness conspire to light up our minds with the light of our soul....More

To Tell Your Story, Take a Page from Kurt Vonnegut
Harvard’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism recently shed a spotlight on Vonnegut’s story graphs in its publication Nieman Storyboard (a wonderful resource on the art of storytelling in itself). Vonnegut devoted his master’s thesis at the University of Chicago to studying the shapes of stories. The thesis was rejected (apparently, Vonnegut’s advisors were of the John Keating school of literary criticism). But his ideas are thriving online in various storytelling tutorials.  Nieman offers up Vonnegut’s original presentation, now on YouTube, in which he graphs some of the most basic story structures and explains how they work. Ten Great Ways to Crush Creativity

Paul Sloane

Leaders have more power than they realize. They can patiently create a climate of creativity or they can crush it in a series of subtle comments and gestures. Their actions send powerful signals. Their responses to suggestions and ideas are deciphered by staff as encouragement or rejection. If you want to crush creativity in your organization and eliminate all the unnecessary bother of innovation then here are ten steps that are guaranteed to succeed....More

Creativity Is Stranger Than Fiction
Michael Hendrix
 .....
Creativity in the workplace cannot be turned on and off. It can't be effectively sequestered to a "design thinking room" or a "creative thinking room" (both of which we've seen way too often). It can't be suddenly initiated by donut breakfasts, casual Fridays, or giving everyone iPads. It won't survive if it's just a one-off event like a make-a-thon weekend or an innovation workshop. Creativity is high maintenance. More...

Finding time for Writing & Creative Pursuits

Douglas Eby

Finding time for writing or other creative pursuits is one of the biggest challenges.....It is a tremendous struggle to find the time, whether you are still working with family responsibilities or not.
Now I'm in a financial position where I could retire, and I have been struggling with that very thing: how do you make a life where you have the time for the writing? .....More
